Are You Designing for Your Customer—or for Yourself?

Time to ask yourself: Are You Designing for Your Customer—or for Yourself?

At the North Carolina Southern Ideal Home Show at the Fairgrounds, we had an interesting conversation with a customer that got us thinking about the relationship between a designer and their customer.

In our industry, trends are always changing. New colors, styles, layouts, and displays are constantly being introduced. It is natural to want to keep up with what is popular and what competitors are showing. But in the middle of all that, it can be easy to lose sight of the person sitting across the table from you—the customer.

Are you really listening to what they need? Are you asking how they use their kitchen and what challenges they are trying to solve? Or are you steering them toward what is currently popular or what you think looks best?

A beautiful showroom should inspire ideas, but the goal should be to help your customer find the right solution for their home, lifestyle, and budget.

Your customer may only purchase a kitchen once or twice in their lifetime. They are relying on you for your experience and guidance. That means taking the time to listen, answer questions, simplify the choices, and make the process as painless and stress-free as possible.

This is where Blue Valley Cabinets can help. We want to be a resource for you—not just a place to purchase cabinets. Our team is here to help answer product questions, work through challenges, and help you find solutions that fit your customer’s needs. When we can make your job easier, you can spend more time focusing on your customer.

Sometimes the best thing we can do is slow down, ask a few more questions, and listen. At the end of the day, it isn’t about whether your customer chose the trendiest kitchen in the showroom. It’s about whether they ended up with the right kitchen for them.
